Will a small block radiator from a 73 fit in a small block 72?
I am looking to replace my stock one with an aftermarket aluminum one and I have found one for a 73 at a good price,
Anyway I am always open to suggestions, gotta get it ready to roll for Carlisle.
Thanks!
Hard to tell from pictures from DeWitt's site, but he will be able to answer that for you. Some info you'll need is if the two cars share something like an automatic transmission or A/C...or if they are completely different.
72 Corvettes used 3 different radiators. No air 350, 4 speeds used the 19" aluminum radiator (same as used since 63). Automatic and/or air 350 cars used the 25" copper radiator, and big blocks used the 26" wide copper radiator. Each required a different core support. This was the same for all 69-72 Corvettes.
73 to early 76's all used the same radiator. Original equipment ones were made of copper. The 73 to 76E radiator uses a different core support than any of the 72's. The 73 radiator will not mount to your 72 core support without considerable modifications, though it will go in easily if you use a 73 to76E core support, which will bolt into your 72.
Cost wise it's probably cheaper to find the correct radiator. Good, solid , used 73 core supports are hard to come by and new they cost about $300.
