Default Water Temp Sending unit

I have a 1970 C3 that had originally a 350/350 sbc. I have just dropped in 406 (400 bored .030 over). I use to have the water temp sending unit on the drivers side just below the head towards the front.
I went to the parts store and ordered the part for both a 400 and 350 sbc and the sending unit has a much larger thread approx .75" vs the capped threaded brass bolt that came out that looks approx .5"
I looked elsewhere on the block and don't see anywhere else the larger sending thread would go.
Any thoughts to what I have or what I need would be once again greatly appreciated.

Here is a pic of what I have now.

Doesn't the sending unit go into the head, not the block?......that's where the one you got from the parts store screws into....just below the #1 and #3 spark plugs.

I agree, there are two, one per head. The sender you bought will likely fit in one of those ports.

You'll need a sender from 'Lectric Limited with the 'pin' style connector. Senders need to have the resistence/calibration for accurate gauge readings. Various vendors sell it.

I think the issue I have is that I have trick flow aluminum heads? I also have a edelbrock performaer intake manifold and I found a water threaded hole looks to be same size as temp sending unit. I wonder is I can connect it there just below the water inlet by the thermostat?
I will also call trick flow or look at there website and see what they have. I didn't see any holes?

Trick Flow Chevy heads should have the correct hole.....but if yours doesn't, yes, you can use the hole in the manifold by the thermostat. (That's where I put mine)

That's where I put mine also, works fine. As stated above Lectric Limited furnishes one that works with our gages.
