I want to wakeup my '73 350 automatic by changing the rear axle ratio. Currently have a 3.08 considering a 3.55 or 3.70. Anyone tried this or have experience with this change? Thanks
if you do alot of driving id go with 3.55's...3.73's are just numerically high enough to be a pain on the highway and just numerically low enough that you want more power. 3.55's are definatley a good all around cruising gear.

I used to have a set of 3.70s in my 'Vette. With the 215/70/15 tires I was taching 3000RPMs at 60mph. They were kind of a pain for highway driving but were really nice for "beating" around town and running down the 1/4 mile. I would say if you do a lot of highway driving, go with the 3.55s....if not, I highly recommend the 3.70s.
I put the 3.55 gear in mine. Runs 3000rpm @ 70. you will need to add a reducer to the speedo cable to get your odometer to be right. my speedo read 50mph with the radar checked it at 39mph. I had a local speedo shop reset it to read correct at 50. I get around 11mpg on the highway.
