While reading other threads, a question popped into my mind.
BB stock rocker arms are 1.7 ratio and SB stock rockers are 1.5. Is there anyway to tell by looking at them which is which? Are they interchangable? Could I have 1.5's on my rebuilt 69 BB?
And, are there 1.8 or 1.9 available?
Thanks 1fastc3, but I should have clarified a little. At $400, I don't think this would be the best use of my $$. What I ment was, is there any higher ratio stock type stamped--cheap--rocker arms that might provide a little upgrade for little $$ ?
And anyone, is there a way to tell without measuring if I do have 1.7 rockers? Are the interchangeable with sb 1.5?
They aren't interchangeable. The distance from valve to stud is different.
You can get in expensive 1.6 stamped rockers for SB's from Elgin and many circle track stores. I think they also have some 1.8's for big blocks.
There are 1.9 and even 2.0+ rockers available...but you have to be very careful up there. You are speeding things up way past the design of the cam lobe and can get some weird issues with valve float etc. Lobes that use these ratios are designed for them.
There are 1.2 and 1.3 *break in * rockers that some folks use to help camshaft break in.
