Default Driveline angles

As per my previous thread.
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=2088109

The angle of my tranny is 2.5 degrees down, the drive shaft is .5 degrees down towards the rear and my diff is down towards the front 1.5 degrees. Whats everybody's opinion on that.

The way I think it's supposed to be is the diff should match the tranny angle and also be parallel to each other. I think the u-joints need a little angle so they operate smoothly, but they should match and be parallel, not intersecting.

Ideally, for every degree down at the tranny shaft, you'd want a degree up on the diff. pinion. I think the C3's come stock at about 3 degrees down on the trans. and zero on the pinion. Hardly ideal but seems to work and not vibrate. The down angle on the trans and the up angle on the pinion makes them parallel (ideal). I have a 3 degree down angle on my 4l60E and I made a 3 degree wedge at my diff mount to point the pinion up 3 degrees. I also added a reverse 3 degree wedge to the strut mount to keep it flat and went with a dual mount spring (does not attach to diff) to avoid spring twist.
Hope this helps....gp

I'm thinking I'm going to have to tilt the front of the diff up, I like your idea.

Default Auto to Manual?

Would a change from an auto trans to M21 require any changes?
I've always wondered about the angle and if it makes the trans pop out of gear occasionally?

Ricisan

Sorry for the semi hijack!

I by no means claim to know anything about U joint alignment, but if you go to the "Classic Motorsports Group" home web page, click on technical details, select common questions and the second question from the end has a link to a great five page article on U joint alignment procedures for passenger cars. I hope this is of some help. My C3 is a 72 BB, unfortunately it's a flintstone car right now.
