So it was reading 3500 at idle and when driving its around 6-7000rpm
I just put on a new tach filter($50) and no change ...so is the problem in the tach circuit board ? do I need to take it out(royal pain in the azz) and send it off for repair ? any suggestions would be appreciated...
Maybe I'll just leave it alone or unplug it
Thanks...
Help
Certainly sounds like it could be a bad tach board. If there are any burn spots on the board itself, then it is likely repairable. It may also be repairable if not burnt but it also may just as well be the IC chip that is bad, which is a obsolete part and no longer available. You would then need to replace the board. But either way you are going to have to pull out the tach movement/assembly to figure this out and/or repair/replace it.

Good Luck!

No...I never thought of that ...would the tach work at all?Can I just disconnect the filter or do I have to bypass it?Wouldn't that be nuts if it worked without the tach filter?
Thanks...
