Anyone have any suggestions on a reputable place to buy a crate 350 in Southern California? If i cant find anything...im thinking about buying Year One's 350-400HP.
In my '70 I have a Chevy 330 hp crate engine. Came from the area dealer through my mechanic. As I understand it one dealer in an area stocks various crate engines - took me two days to get. That is if you want The General's.
IMO, the Year One products are good quality and although I haven't looked at their crate motor offerings, the other product that they sell seems to be a bit pricier than from other sources.
I found some good things said about Year One's crate engines on this forum.....another place i was looking is Phoenix Engine Rebuilders. I couldnt find any positive feedback for them on this forum, only a couple of negative posts.
Two places that have been around for 30+ years are Team C in Bellflower "www.teamc.com" 888-866-3555 or Bob Sebring's Performance Center in Torrance 310-517-9999.
Many Chevy Dealers have crate engines, but, their prices are higher than other vendors.
Summit Racing sells GM crate motors and shipping is reasonable. Check out their GM ZZ4.
Go to a parts store where Drive magazine is distributed (It's free) and look up some of the engine suppliers listed in there. Speed o Motive has been around for quite a while in LA.
i bought the year one 350. great power...mine came out around 425 hp and 455 tq. for only 3200 to my door, it was a lot cheaper than any comparable gm crate that i could find. how much power are you wanting?
WOW sounds like the Year One engine is a great deal. I put in a ZZ4 in my 70. I used the ads in DRIVE magazine to get a great price from a Chevy dealership in my area. Good luck !!

Around 400 hp...sounds like the ticket is Year One.
Team C in Lakewood (or Bellflower) built me a great 383 a couple of years ago. World heads, Crane cam, Melling NASCAR oil pump, etc. Powerful, smog legal (it's in a 1990 truck) and still running sweet with mileage as good as the original 350 when it was new!
I've heard horror stories about a few factory-built crate engines. Sure they have a warranty, but who wants to pull and install twice? I prefer hand-inspected and wrenched components.
