Ok guys, ,,,, replaced the rad and fans recently on my otherwise stock L-48 1975 coupe.... especially the alternator,
Car runs cool
A/C works good
Alt meter is way over to the right on about 35 or 40
Wife is happy! (did I mention it 103 in the shade?)
Today I'm on my way back to the house....
In traffic
A/C on
Radio jammin
Its dusk
I reach up and turn on the lights and the car dies,,,,,and I mean dies so hard that I don't have any power for anything. No click no radio nothing.
I'm guessing my upgrades have tasked my poor stock alternator to the point of shock? I sat there for 2 minutes and then the power came back and the car started right up. I got on straight to the house without A/C radio or any goodies and thanked the good Lord when I pulled in the garage.
Where do I start and what am I gonna be looking for?

Alternators and batterys dont recover that fast. I would look at wiring especially fusable links and power connections.
You need a bigger alternator. If your ammeter is registering huge numbers, (35 - 40 amps) you are using huge amounts of amps and your current alternator is not keeping up. You should only be showing higher amps at idle, and that should still be just 10- 15 amps. Go to at least a 100 amp alternator. Upgrade from an SI to CS144 alternator. Search the forum about wiring issues for higher alternator output and fans. Make sure that your wiring is adequate - relays, controllers, switches, etc.
