banging in muffler ?????????
Check this one out, ive seen a few funny things but?????????
a friend just bought a 70 1/2 rs 396/402 Camaro, VERY VERY strong engine.
Mufflers were a bit shoddy and it was banging badly thru one, sounded almost misfire like, but more like baffle loose.
we threw two new mufflers on it and checked clearance everywhere for muffler, found #7 pushrod slipped out from under roller rocker so fixed that at the same time.
BUT guess what.......still does it, but only intermittently as before, had it over the pit at work running and can hear it banging, quite loud, people look at u at lights, and i can feel it in the muffler.
Cannot feel it anywhere else in the exhaust system, had the stethoscope on it as well but still no clues, quiet in front pipes and headers but noisy intermittently in muffler..................HELP :confused:

Sounds like you have a over rich condition which is putting raw fuel into the exaust it gets to the muffler and then exploding causing the banging
