Well, I just fixed a substantial vacuum leak problem (carb gasket failure) last week, and I get into my car to drive home for lunch (I work 2 miles from home), and the damn pass. (power) window will not go down. Further, the motor can only be heard when you try to put it up, but nothing can be heard from the motor when I go to put it down. Any suggestions as to what might be the culprit?
Mine was caused by wear inside the rocker switch, it would only work 1 way. I got an extra 6 months out of it by cleaning the contacts-ended up replacing it to solve the problem.

Pull the side panels off the center console, and switch the wiring on the switches. See if the problem switches sides.
If it does change sides then the problem is the switch. If it does not change, the problem is in the door.

Well, I ruled out the passenger window switch being the cause of my problem. I followed DB's advice and switched out the wiring on the switches. The passenger switch operated the driver side window without a problem so apparently the problem lies within the door. Does anyone have any input as to what might be causing the window to go up, but not down? I removed the door panel today along with the motor access panel, but honestly I don't know what to look for
Check for a broken wire in between the body and the door.Inside the rubber flex tube.
try your best to spray some good brand lube on your window regulators to help ease the pressure on the motor. motor may be going bad. You can unplug it and put a test jumper on it to see if it will opperate on it's own that way. If it does, you either have a wiring problem, or the switch is bad. If it doesn't, the motor may be going out. Good luck. I just went through this with my car. Mine ended up being a bad switch. After I had replaced the motor.
