Default C3 or C4 which am I?

Since I am installing an LT1 in my 79, do I ask my questions here or in the C4 section? I'll ask here. I was installing the opti dist. tonight. The tiiming cover was installed along with harmonic balancer hub when I purchased the motor...I tried pulling it off to pull the timing cover to check the timing marks...I don't have the right tool to do this. Good news is I get to buy more tools!!! So I hooked my compression gauge to the #1 cylinderand turned the motor over till I got compression and the mark on the hub pointed straight up. Having never messed with an opti i was thinking the rotor would point kinda at the #1 tower. When I pulled the cap off I saw that you really can't tell which pin goes to which cylinder. Anyway the roter is pointing down at the 6 o'clock position. Is that correct. As always thanks again.

no thats about right. remember you have a four stroke engine, every two rotations is a complete cycle for a cylinder. At TDC it can be pointing at 1 or 6 depending on what part of the cycle your on. try rotating it around again back to TDC.

Are you using a Carb'd version of th eLT1 or the stock fuel injection/EFI setup? If the EFI, where the hub is on teh crank doesn't matter. The ECM will determine where and when to fire based on crank and cam position sensors.

If using a carb, then you got it right.

I used a carb and distributor int he LT1 I installed in my 34 Ford a few years back. After I was sorry I didn't throw the EFI unit on it.
