I am about to replace the brake master cylinder on a '70 w/o power brakes. The service manual says to disconnect the push rod from the brake pedal which appears to be difficult up under the dash -- not to mention getting the push rod connected again.
Is there any hope for MC replacement without disconnecting the brake pedal?
Yeah man I just did my 69 MC w/o power simple 15 minutes .
step1 put towel or cardboard under MC in car to catch any over flow
Step 2- Break the hard lines loose and disconnect from existing MC
Step 3 Remove the 2 nuts that are holding the MC on " there is
carriage bolts coming through the firewall they will stay once
nuts are removed. slide old mc out .REMOVAL IS COMPLETE
Step 4 Bench bleed new MC
Step 5 Mount MC ,Install hard lines Installation is done.
At this point if MC was bleed well on bench you shouldnt have to bleed brakes but it can hurt.

Great walk-through.
Also, be careful not to get any of the brake fluid on your paint. It'll leave spots that you'll never get out.

Spots my *** some dribbled off my fender guard I didn't realize it sat for 15-20 minutes. When I wiped it with a rag it took the paint right off the car .

Has to do with the clear coat / thickness...I dribbled some one mine, don't really care about old paint anyway, and it just left bad spots.
Thanks to all who replied. Just the info I hoped for, but could not quite believe the job would be so simple. I leaned long ago, when everything is going good, think about what you may have overlooked.
Anyway, should get the MC tomorrow & install over the weekend. Yes, I will be super careful with the paint -- it is a new paint job with not a scratch so far.
yeah man becareful I would drop the old MC instead of lifting it out if you have a SB it should be no prob. I picked up my new MC for about $55.00 make sure to use a line wrench on the hard lines as they strip easy. And yes the long way is short way most of the time. GL bro
