All set to pull the trigger on a GMPP crate motor for my 1971 roadster project. I like the sound of the ZZ385 Fastburn, GM #12496769. Will my 1971 roadster accept this configuration without to many hassles. Was concerned about what might have to be changed to fit frame(waterpump, oil pan, etc?) Any advice is appreciated.
I'm using the pan that came with the zz383. The only thing that was a bit of a hassle was the water pump. The timing cover interferes with a short water pump. You have a couple of options and if I remember correctly they are: change the timing cover, use socket head screws, or grind the water pump. The mechanic that installed my engine had issues with the above options so I wound up buying an Edelbrock 350 8812 pump which has a little more clearance and it fit just fine with no modification.
