Default need help removing exhaust manifold studs

just spent about an hour trying to remove a single stud and didnt even get it to budge,

we locked 2 nuts together and got the flange cherry red, but the bolts just loosened up and spun off instead of taking the stud with it.

When using the two nuts method you need to wrenches too. You have to turn the top nut down, like you're tightening it over the bottom one, as you turn it. However, you want to balance it because the goal is to get the stud out. You're applying just enough tightening pressure to the top nut to keep them tight and together, while you turn the bottom nut in an attempt to loosen it.

I have used this method with great success.

If you have the room for two nuts though, you can just as easily weld the nut to the stud, and try to get it out that way. Tacks on the sides under the nut, and on top where the stud comes through.

Soak it for a few hours with PB Blaster too, it always helps. Soaking it once a day for a few days is even better.

Don't be too shocked if you break off at least a couple as well. That's what Helicoils are for.

If you have access to a welder, I've gotten them out by welding a nut to the end of the stud. Sometimes it doesn't matter what ya do, some will break off. I lost 2 on my C4 but got the rest out as described above. Drilled and taped the others out carefully and was able to keep the old threads, It's time consuming for sure.
Good Luck,
Jon
