Installing VBP Rack Attack & Have Hydoboost Line Question
I have a Hydroboost brake system installed on my 70 Vette and I'm in the process of installing the VBP Rack Attack. I was wondering if there are any special connections of the P/S lines. I figured the high side coming from the Hydroboost would connect to the racks high side and the return line would go from the rack to the P/S pump. If this isn't correct, pleas steer me right.
Yeah that's basically it. There is a high pressure line from the power steering pump to the Hydro. Then a high pressure line from the Hydro to the stock assist unit, or in your case, to the Rack. Then the return line from your rack, will meet the return line of the Hydro in a 'T' and re-enter the pump reservoir.
I might suggest that you install an inline fluid cooler in the return line to the pump. This will help with fluid temperatures and hot fluid is one of the worst things for a power steering pump.
Thanks for the info and the inline P/S fluid cooler tip. Your guys knowledge on this forum is priceless.

Curious about what would be the recommended location for this very low DP cooler. Maybe in the Hydro return line before the T connection. The Rack return line to the pump has maybe 12-18 inches in it and it winds through some VERY tight quarters around moving suspension parts.
Is it the hydro unit or the rack that produces the heat? I understand the hydro unit does not produce as much return flow volume, so your effects might be real limited in the cooling dept if it is put in that return line.
Heat is generated inside the pump as it works against entire system backpressure.
Return flow from the gear and from the hydroboost unit usually are tee'd together someplace close to the return spout on the pump reservoir.
The highest flow is from the return port in the gear to the pump. So if you are going to install a cooler that is the line that you want to use.
Also you want the return flow from the gear to be the most direct route back to the pump. Return flow from the hydroboost unit only occurs when you step on the brakes. So bring the hydroboost flow into the T at right angles. Make the return flow from the gear to be as "straight through" the Tee as possible.
