If you do it yourself, you need a professional by your side to verify you have the correct pattern. So, in the end, I suggest you send your diff to a pro - and there are only two pros I trust, and they are right here on this forum.
I however, wanted the peace of mind that mine had been done right the first time by someone that I knew for a fact was doing the work himself.
If you have never rebuilt one before or researched how they should be rebuilt, then you won't know if it was actually done right. Just because a shop rebuilds it for you doesn't mean that it was built by a "professional". I hear guys telling stories about shops making their diffs worse than when it wasn't rebuilt.
I would only trust two guys with rebuilds, and they are right here on this forum. No local quickie shops for me. I'm done bickering now. To the OP, good luck with whatever decision you make.
