It appears I have a bad head light switch. Read the archives and my issues seems to match:
Headlights will turn on, but will not open except from override
Turn signals work until I pull the headlight **** out... then just on.. no flashing
would you guys agree... headlight switch?
Now... comes the real question... When I apply the brakes... the lights for the tach and speedo come on too... and one other bulb from the center console area. The rear brake lights come on as well as they should. I don't have the center console or RH dash in place yet... so I was hoping to get this fixed so I don't have to "go back in" later. Any suggestions where to start my troubleshooting?
edit*** forgot to add... when I pull the headlight **** out... the interior lights do work. I can dim and also turn on courtesy lights too.

More good news... I just noticed while I was sitting in the Vette trying to think about the brake/interior light issue... when I hit the brake... the front turn signals and side markers are on too... not real bright ... but they do go on... hmmmmm
after reading a lot more posts... I swapped the vacuum lines on the headlight switch... IT WORKED. The headlights now operate from the switch. Good stuff.
Still have original issue with the brake light switch... hits the brake and the dash lights come on.. as well as turn signals in the front... I tried everything that I know.. which isn't much...
When you say "dash lights come on"....you mean turn signal "indicators" in the dash... correct?
The gray wired bulbs in the speedo and tach only... not center console area. Also the side marker and turn signal lights in the front of the car... at the front grill... all the lights that shouldn't come on when I hit the brake are dim... except for the rear brake lights... they look bright as they should. Checking all my grounds as suggested...
edit*** forgot to add. When I put the right turn signal on (up on the stalk) the flasher works and right signal lights work when head lights are on. However, when I put left signal on (stalk down) and the headlights are on... no blinking... signal just stays on... If I turn the headlight switch off... the left signal works...????????

Thats odd your getting in to another circuit.
Definitely start with your grounds.I have several 15' pieces of wire with clips on each end that I use as temporary grounds using the neg. terminal of the battery. In a case like yours I clip one end on neg. term. of battery and start touching different areas with the other end.By putting a sharp probe in the aligator clip I can touch the side of a bulb and suppley it with a good ground....if it lights up better then you know it was lacking a ground.
Maybe replace the headlight switch and see what happens... When I look at a schematic, the brake lights are wired to the switch, and connect right next to the tab that goes straight to the fuse block for power - and this wire seems to share the same fuse as the power wire for the gauge lights... so it goes brown wire from the lights to the switch, which connects next to the green wire that goes to the fuse block, which shares the same fuse as the grey wires that go to the light bulbs. Maybe something inside the headlight switch is cracked and you are connecting different circuits through this faulty switch?
