Default Quadrajet question

My carb gets very hot and I think I may have fuel boiling. I've heard of using an extra thick spacer gasket under the carb, but I happen to have two new standard spacer gaskets (1/4") sitting around and was wondering if there would be any problem with doubling up?
I've heard people talk of noticable performance gains using actual 1" carb spacers, but my hood claerance has never allowed me to try it. I thouight this might kill two birds with one stone (or two gaskets). Any thoughts? Thanks and God bless, Sensei

Probably be ok but by spacing up is it going to cause a problem with any connections to the carb? If your using the gaskets with the 4 plastic spacers you mind end up with them loose in the center... then it could leak air.Try it but check air leaks.

Default Heat shield?

Why don't you try one of those heat shields? I have one lying about the garage somewhere! They are made my Mr Gasket I think. Its merely a thin alum plate that fits between the carb adn the intake. It helps disipate heat. Its cheap and might work! I never got around to fitting mine! Guess I did not need it!

Check your heat riser valve on the right hand exhaust manifold. If it does not open, it can force too much exhaust gas through the exhaust crossover in the intake manifold, and therefore, overheat the carb.

Doc Rebuild has them. They were a stock item for a couple years.

Here are some pics showing the shield with my spreadbore Holley.
