Default What is this?

I pulled my car in the garage and there was this piece of rubber on the driveway. Its a partial piece of round rubber with the #'s 3795333, its about 3/4 of an inch thick and 2 inches round. I believe it came off the rear of the car. I drove the car hard and did not feel or hear anything strange. Could this be some sort of mount or bushing? The car is an 81 4 speed 383.

Thanks, John

Thats what happens when you bang those gears now you have to replace the front differential mount. Not a biggy.

that is your lower differential mount bushing according to the part number and the description you gave matches.

If it is your front differential mount don't get the one from Eckler's. I have that one and the washers that came with it disintegrated before I could get the torque to where it should be. I had to buy new hardware for it but I wish I would have just reused the hardware from the original now. I may still.

Thanks so much, is the car safe to drive until I have it repaired? How many mounts are there, and what else should I check for or have replaced? The car has the original 272 T10 rear with 85,000 on the clock. I would love to go 373 but everyones telling I would tear up the stock rear end with over 400 HP?

It should be okay to drive just as long the bolt did,nt break. You might just hear a little bang when you speed up or slow down, I,d take it easy though.

I just rebuilt my engine and it hasn't been on the dyno yet but I expect 400+ HP from it. I am running 3.73 gears in the rear with a Keisler 5-speed conversion. I haven't had it on the road yet but I know there are people here on the forum that run the stock 80-82 diff with a lot more HP than I have and have not broken anything. Then you get the guys that swear they will break with any kind of power. The way I look at it is that with street tires and street driving, I think the tires will give up traction before I break the diff. I guess I'll find out one day.
