they extended exactly even with the end of the rear bumper...they look a little longer in the picture, but they were exactly even...i had to completely remove all the original tail light assembly, mounting plates and all....and then i had to cut out and build new platforms to mount the cad lights on...

Donald-
Welcome to the site and congrats on making the car yours.
You'll find that a considerable amount of Vette enthusiasts on this site are NCRS purists and anything outside of stock is just unacceptable to them as it lies outside their realm. I'm sure you'll get a lot of opinionated feedback, as you did ask.
It sort of looks like 4 mini missiles looking at you - very James Bond-ish. It certainly is original. When you boil it down, if you like it, that's all that really matters. Like stated previously, there are those that will consider what you've done to be an abomination. To each their own...
It's not NEARLY as bad as I would have thought before I saw the pics. In fact, its OK! However, I have always enjoyed the 59/60 cadillacs, and I still think that is where those taillights will always look the best.
Better yet, its a mod anyone can deal with; easily changed back at any time.
at first sight, I thought " you gotta be chitting me", but the more I looked at them, the more the grew on me. Corvette made their name because a few folks walked their on path..keep walking that path.
It's not NEARLY as bad as I would have thought before I saw the pics. :
One thing to think about is grafting the caddy lights to the original corvette lights. I think it would give it a more finished look. Good job of thinking out of the box.
no offense, but you asked for opinons....it looks like something that guy bubba we talk about all the time would do.
I'm all for being different and thinking outside the box...there's noway these things look like they "belong" on the car. Maybe if they were modified to where they didn't still out near as much and actually filled up the whole diameter of each tail light housing.....but that'd be a lot of work.
I do appreciate the fact that you're trying to be different though....
I agree with Hitman, it is a contradiction of styles. Smooth rounded and oval shapes with the vette and missile like cones from the caddy lights.
It does kinda look like the Batmobile.
