My '77 didn't have a cover over the flex plate when I bought it. The oil pan has a pretty good dent in it, so I'm figuring the flexplate cover got dented too. Anyway, I ordered a new cover from Ecklers. Can someone tell me if I have to remove the transmission lines to the radiator to install the cover? The lines both have fittings on them about 1-2 feet from the flexplate, going toward the radiator. If I disconnected them there, could I get enough play to slip the cover in behind the lines. I'm assuming the cover has to go behind the transmission lines. There's a slot cut out in the cover, but it appears to be for clearance of the starter. Just trying to find the simplest way to install this part, without disturbing too much. My wife thinks I have a tendancy to break one thing while fixing something else.

You can buy that from anywhere, why a Corvette supplier?
That dust cover is to protect the gear from gravel from getting jambed in there, and help prevent dust from getting to the front seal.

It has a secondary function too. If you have a leak in the front seal, the cover prevents the converter from flinging ATF onto your header collector, creating staggering amounts of smoke. With the cover in place, it just leaks on to the road. :o
Thanks for the help. After looking again, I think it will squeeze behind the lines. The cover was part of a larger order from Ecklers, along with headlight actuators, coolant expansion tank, power steering hose set, chrome master cylinder cover, and a dozen other little do-dads. I never seem to be able to order just "one" part for this car.

Victimized by the 'while i'm at it's eh??'...... the only true long term casualty in hotrodding is the pigskin....
Yep, it never ever ends. Everytime I think I've got this car the way I want it, I go to a car show or cruise in and see something else. My first thought is "hmmm, I need that".
