Default Hooker Side Pipe install

1975 SBC

Super competition kit in Stainless

Raised the car up and Ok, got the passenger side on the car no sweat.

Drivers side......

I can raise the car so high my great dane can walk under it but I CAN NOT get enough clearance to get the header inside on the engine bay.

What's up with that?

Special incantation.,,,,,need some lube or nice talking?

This crap is about to make me mad, no reason it should not go on.

What is it getting hung up on? Seems like I raised the rear higher than the front for the install.

Definately don't have clearance for the steering box.

Durango Boy suggested undoing the motor mount, jacking a little and trying to get a little extra room that way. After thinking about it I believe he's right 'cause other than pulling the bolt and raising that side of the engine I'm not gonna get that extra inch or two in the gap that I need.

Any other help appreciated!

Oh yeah, the passenger side looks awesome! I can sit and look at it for hours....

I have sidepipes on my '75. To get the driver's side in I had to remove the plugs and the oil pressure sender.

Yep I'm tracking on that. Got it all off and pulled. Just don't have that last little space.

That was my only other suggestion, because I forgot to ask if you had removed the plugs and oil pressure sender.

yep, the whole side if the engine is clean as a whistle. I just need that extra inch or angle to manuever the far rear end of the header in. Whats really so annoying is that on the pass side the darn thing went straight up and in and didn't hit anything,

Oh well, as is often stated on the site, every Vette is different.
I'll try the motor mount trick when I get off work this afternoon. Hopefull that will let the engine "roll" up and right enough to give me clearance.

On another note,,,its darn scary to be jacking the car up from the from and see the amount of flex the frame has as it is raised from the front. WOW!

Yeah good point, I forgot to tell you not to open any of the doors when doing this. It won't close right and might chip the paint.

I do suggest that if you do try unbolting the engine mount, that you do both. Doing only one might damage the transmission mount when you 'roll' the engine. I'm sure you can get about 2" by lifting the engine...just watch the fan in the shroud and the distributor.

Finally!!!!!

What a comedy of errors!
Ended up removing everything down to the wire covers, and then lifting up the engine from the motot mounts until the trans touched the tunnel. Had to force it in but finally got it in.

Thanks for the help DB!!

Default Side Pipe

I have a 1980 and im wondering if there is any problems jacking the caR up once side pipes are installed or do you have to drive it up on ramps to get under it for any future car repairs?

Some low profile jacks will slide under the side pipe and allow you to jack it up from the frame. You can also still easily access the front and rear for jacking.
