alright heres my issue. i pulled the motor had it rebuilt. stuffed it back into the car. i also lowered the steering collum to replace the tach board and the speedo cable. when i went to hook up the battery it arched so i checked for loose wires. found a switch thats disconnected, hooked it up and went to prime the motor. turned it over with the key and went to stop after a few seconds and the starter wouldnt shut off with the key off. any good advise would be helpful thanks.

I had a similar problem with my 68 two weeks ago. If the engine keeps running after the key is turned off, stsrt pulling fuses. When the engine stops you will know what electrical circuit is causing the problem. Troubleshoot from there. I suspect that extra wire you attached may be the cause.

the thing is that with out that extra switch attached the battery sparked. i love the things previous owners do to cars.
alright so heres the update.. well me in all my vast electrical knowledge (its my job in the military im an electronics tech) over nuked the problem fried a starter and all i did was place a ground that was taped to the starter wire (from a previous owner) well after i took off all the tape and started to read wires i realized i owned myself by trying to hook up the wires by memory. i now realize i suffer from c.r.s. but in e end a new starter and the wires conned correctly this time my 76 is back on the road. thanks for everyones help btw.
