How much for and back movement is there supose to be in the rear wheels with the car jacked up with the suspention unloaded?
If it is excessive what needs to be replaced?
I have about 3-4" of travel.
You mean when the car is jacked up, wheels off the ground and just hanging there, you can put your hand at 9&3 oclock and move the wheel 3" or so?? by twisting it??
IF so, you got major problems and it's HIGHLY DANGEROUS>>>>>
Moving it that far is not good but could be its only the clips missing from the side yokes.
edit on second thought the clips ARE missing and the yokes are probably worn off.
But also you could have a freshly set up rear end and the clips missing would give you this much play.

Yes 3-4" in and out.
Would this cause the shifting/movment i feel when taking of/cornering? I can't imagine it would as the axle is all the way in when the spring is pushing out on the bottom of the wheel?
Yes, if the side yokes have that much play then you should check the diff. Check to see if the yokes are hitting the housing and grinding it away as well.
