I may need a temporary shelter for my 1979 next summer and was thinking of a "instant" garage. Are these shelters solid, wind and rain proof? What holds them down so the wind does not make them into a kite? Below is just but one of many on the market. http://www.ravenhollow.net/shopvt/coverit/
Paul Have you ever thought about a Sea container. I store some of my cars inside them they are secure, water proof. fire proof vandal proof. Take a look at this web site to see what I'm talking about. I actually own about 8 units http://www.isocontainers.com Don't buy them from these guys as they are very overpriced but they have a good web site :) My 77 has been safely stored since November inside one.
Thanks, Paso. But that is more than I need. I anticipate some home construction next summer and need temp storage in the back yard (I should have been more specific about it being within the home yard) away from dust and dirt. These instant units come out at less than $700US but the aluminum framing gives me pause in case of a windstorm. Do not need those posts scraping across a $5000.00 paint job.....
Hi Paul, just thought I would send this link along, it is a Canadian place that sells what you are after, they are in Bolton............. www.domeshelter.com
I think they are great. Completely rodent free. very secure that is what I like the best. Started buying for myself then I started renting some out. I would recommend them to anyone.
I constructed a simple and cheap winter shealter for my freshly painted project Fiero a couple years ago.
I used 1 1/2" schedule 40 pvc pipe to build a frame and covered it with a silver gray tarp. Worked great :yesnod:
Paso, would you care to let me in on the secret of where you get your boxes at? If not that's OK too. Do you know of any other places that are cheaper?
I'll dig up some info for your area. If you live in area that does not have alot of outbound container shipments. The better the chance to buy a good one cheap.
I dunno...
From Paul's original link, it looks like these are Corvette-approved!
The top right picture looks like they have a C2 and a C3 in the two-car model
Top row center pic in that link is where my C3 is sleeping right now. Its anchored to the ground with big skewers. Mine is aboutseven years old and is in great shape. Much better than a car cover, you can hook up fluorescent overheads to it pretty easily too.
George,
What are skewers? If set-up on pavement, do you lag bolt them down?
The skewers are basically these long metal rods (about 2') with an auger on the end that clamp to the frame. On pavement, you could probably hammer some re-rod in and clamp them.
Ed, that is typical NE state thinking.....too many liberals...
but it depends on the situation you are in....some places no one would notice and take exception, others would.....
depending,.....I"d just do it, let the ********* worry later....
I don't know if I'd trust that thing in the wind with a 5 grand paint job. Only thing I can think of is to bulid your own with some wooden posts and a tin roof. It would probably take a little longer to build than the temporary garage, but I bet it's alot sturdier. Just my .02
