Default coolant in floorboard

I am writing here on behalf of my stepfather...i dont know much about cars and he dont no much about computers...anyway, the heater is leaking coolant into the floorboard thru the vents behind the console. i was told i can take the hose leading from water pump and the one from the intake and join them, bypassing the heater. is this right? if so, the two hoses are different in size and that would be alot of extra hose just hanging around the engine. how would YOU do it? BTW, its a 72 with the 350SB

Yes you may either tie the 2 Hoses together,
or remove 1 hose, tie the points together.
Or, you may block off each individual hose.
good Luck...69VETT

One hose is 5/8" the other is 3/4" you can get a reducer at the auto parts store or Lowes or Home Depot. Just join the two hoses together untill you have time to replace the hearer core. PG.

Unfortunately your heater core is toast. It is a real PIA to replace. Check here and other forums for details. The whole right side and center console need to come out to access it. You can bypass it a couple of ways. Tieing the two hoses together and bypass the core is probably the best way to do it. You can also place a shut off valve on each hose which will be easier if you can't get under the car to access the hoses near the core.

It wont hurt anything to cut the hoses shorter for now. If/when you replace the core you might as well spend the few extra bucks and redo the hoses too.

Just run the 3/4" hose from the waterpump up to the intake 5/8" snout and snug up with a worm-gear clamp. It works.

Then when you have a few spare moments, replace the heater core.
