I'm excited to start my engine for the first time. I'd like to start it up w/o having completed all of the finished wiring. Each harness is properly positioned in the car but I have not connected the harness to each component, since many components are yet to be installed, e.g., interior gauges, AC/Heater, front lights, rear lights. (The interior is not in the car yet and the car will return to the body shop for finish paint and windshield install.) I have completed the wiring to all grounds, the alt., starter, temp sending unit, oil pressure gauge, HEI, wiper/washer motor, turn signal switch and ignition switch. All other non-used wiring connectors are isolated and loosley wrapped. I've pre-oiled the engine, completed cooling system fluid charging, fuel line plumbing and brake line plumbing. I think it's time to turn the key. Based on what I've described...is it OK to proceed with starting the engine for the first time? Oh...it'll be an "open header-no finished exhaust" first start.
I highly recommend , Wait on the open Headers, yes it will wake up the neigborhood.
But you want to see.... and hear everything going on, during this critical time frame.
you ever stood over an open Engine thinking "Hey whats that ?"
and you need to Rev. up to about 2500RPM.
Good Luck ... 69VETT

It's also good to have gauges hooked up, you'll want to know oil pressure and coolant temp at least.
