Due to a sale that fell through, I've got some money burning a hole in my pocket and am wanting to upgrade my current basic inductive timing light to one of those fancy digital timing lights with advance and RPM display.
Here are a couple that I'm considering:
OTC P/N: OTC3378, $130
Equus Innova P/N: EP13568, $95
GTX P/N: FTStealth3, $145
Price is an issue, so I'm leaning towards the Equus one, but I believe OTC has established themselves in the higher line of diagnosis equip.
Re: What is a good digital timing light? (Apeiron)
My little Brother bucked up and bought a used Snap On digitial timing light for $125 or $150 at Carlisle last year. What an incredibly nice peice. You can seitch back and forth from timing to measuring engine RPM's. You can increase of decrease the timing flash so you can line up your balancer mark with the zero mark on your timing tab and accuately know what your timing is and then flip back and forth from the timing scale to RPM scale to know where your timing is set to at a particular RPM and know what RPM all timing is at, just by using the light. Even though he bought the light, I coaxed him into buying it because I knew I would need it to time my engine after the rebuild would be complete. He has owned it a little over a year now, and I have had it more than half that time. Hmmmmm, maybe I should return it this weekend when I take my Vette to his place to store in his recently built 35'X70' garage that has a 12' foot ceiling so he can install a lift later....on second thought, nawww. He can have the Vette for the winter, but not his light back. Maybe I'll swap him the light for my Vette back in the spring. FYI, his building has a top floor for parts storage and was built to support his bad hooby car habit. Maybe someday we will open a garage and restoration business out of it, but for now, its just for kicks.
Hope you "see the light" soon.
Be cool.

Re: What is a good digital timing light? (Chris A)
Chris,
I have an Equus digital light that has a tack and a dwell meter. I just discovered resently that a digital timing light is effected by the electronic capacitor discharge ignition box. The double firing causes the light to become eratic. The electronic box manufactures tell you to time the engine with a none digitial light or shut the box off.
The Equus light works great on my 72 and I have not had any problem with the light itself.
