tach help?????

I have a 78 L48 pace car. when I hold it to the floor It will shift at 6500 rpm I know a stock motor wont do this Any ideas on whats wrong with the tach

You think the tach is giving you a false reading?

Use a timing light that has a built in digital tach, and see for yourself what the RPMs really are through the whole range. Have someone inside to yell the RPMs to you as you hit each mark and see if that matches what the gun says.

If the RPMs are correct, the transmission is simply not shifting when it's supposed to and needs to be checked out.
