Default Knock sensor, any experience ?

Seems like a good idea for a new motor. Especially one that is a bit loud.

Anyone have any experience with these devices, good or bad ?

What brand ?

As far as I know they are only used on computer controlled fuel injected motors. If the computer gets a knock signal, it retardes the ignition timing to avoid dammage.

No there are aftermarket units. MSD makes one, you screw the sensor into one of the block drains, it is expensive though at $250

My '81 came with one stock (computer controlled timing and carb). It allows you some margin of error when playing with compression/ timing/ etc. I like it. God bless, Sensei

It's a good idea and normally all sensors can be 'tuned' to their specific engine and noise level. You basically make it less sensitive. I used to have electric diagrams for doing just that, but I couldn't find them right away. Don't know if it'll work for the aftermarket thingy.

They can work.....just have to desensitize them for forged pistons and solid cam noise.
