Default 5.3l vortec swap

I have a 76 vette with a busted 350 and a wc T-5 ford tranny(adapted of course) Ive seen the 5.3s on ebay for a decent price.

-Has anyone swapped in a 5.3 vortec? I know the swap is really close to the ls1 swap, but what are the major differences hurdles?

Should be pretty much the same. Wiring harnesses, computer and all may be different.

The 5.3L is pretty much like the Gen 305. Same stroke smaller bore, as everything else. which is fine.

Its got an iron block.

Should be about it.

It's for all practical purposes, an iron block ls1, as mentioned previously. They have alot of power potential and are cheap. Best of all I've heard from the ls1truck forum that they can be bored over to the ls1 stock bore. In other words for cheap you could have an iron block ls1.

I'm real interested to see if anyone actually uses a 5.3. I like the idea of getting the car running for cheap then adding heads and a cam. Then later replacing the short block with a 408 stroker.

Iv been wondering about the accessories drives..I think the lower harmonic balancer/pulley sticks out a bit further than the fbodys and im not sure about the oil pan..all in all these are really good motors though..the intake manifolds and throttle bodies actually flow really well..I mean its just a smaller bore iron block ls1 basically
