Engine Rebuild??
Personally, right now I'm leaning toward having mine rebuilt to look basically stock, but upgrade the cam (and any other internals) to the point where it is not overkill for the stock manifold & heads. Of course, depending on what's found once the rebuild begins, that may all go out the window (e.g. if the heads or block are bad).
You should get some very good ideas here. You may also want to check out Chevy High Performance & Hot Rod Magazine for ideas. They've done some pretty good high HP budget motors recently.
Are you thinking of rebuilding the engine yourself?
You can buy a piston kit which comes with pistions, rings, bearings, gaskets, oil pump, etc. Just about everything you need to rebuild the block. If you are keeping it basically stock, cast pistons are fine. You won't need the more expensive forged pistions. You will need to take the pistons/rods to the machine shop along with the new pistons when you get the block bored. This along with a good valve job ought to do it.
You can buy a new or rebuilt short block. I've seen a rebuilt 350 shortblock for $299. Shop around and you can find good deals on 350's. Be advised that the quality on some of these rebuilt shortblocks have little to be desired. Good luck.
