Hi there. I bought a 4L65E tranny from GMPP with the controller kit needed to make it function properly. I bought the transmission because they claimed it would fit on a LS series engine. And so it does, for starters.
The problem is with the wiring that comes along with the controller kit for the tranny.
There are 12 connecters: some are optional. But connecter 4 is weird..
In the manual that came with the transmission it says; The TCU(trans control unit) also needs a connection to the factory distributor, performed through connector 4. This lets the computer know the engine RPM. The computer uses this information to control wide open throttle shift points.
As shown in the wiring schematics the TCU needs the tachometer signal(RPM reference) and a ground through connector 4.
My question is how am i suppose to do that when the ls series engines dont have a distributor?
Am I missing out on something here?
Can i splice the wiring for that connector with the rpm signal from the bulkhead from the ECU that came with the controller kit for the engine then?
Doesn't make much sense to me. Would be glad if someone in here knew
Have you tried contacting GMPP's tech support and asking this question? The wiring kit was probably originally set up for cars later than yous that use a computer controlled distributor like the TBI and TPI systems.
It's very possible that in your situation you won't even need that connector...but that's why it would be best to find out who MAKES it and ask them.
You should get the ECU pinout for the LS engine over at ls1tech. There is a tach output signal from the ECU that could probably be used for your transmission controller.
