rocker arm stud torque
i needed to replace the guide plates in my 72 BB.
i did some measuring and they had 5/16 diameter guide plates and push rods which i discovered were for small blocks.
my searching has found two torques to reinstall the rocker arm studs when i put it all back together. 45 ft/lbs and 60 ft/lbs.
which one is correct. neither of my manuals give a torque reading for that stud.
thanks

I usually do 60 lbs in iron heads...I have no idea if that's 'proper' or not, and if you'd need to do less with aluminum heads.

why would someone put small block pushrods and guide plates in a big block motor.

I don't really understand how small block plates would even fit on big block heads.

That would be impossible.

maybe so but without a shadow of a doubt the guide plates bolted into my heads have 5/16 holes matched to 5/16 pushrods.
i cant find anything that says that big blocks ever used 5/16 pushrods.
i called summit and they in turn called comp cams
neither one of their tech depts knew of any 5/16 pushrods or guide plates for the big block
(ps those pictures dont show up)
here is a pic of my current guideplates as well as my dial calipers measuring the pushrod slot showing 5/16.

ok then that explains that then but not why such small guideplates and rods were installed in the first place when everything i have read says that 3/8 or 7/16 were standard in big blocks
did big blocks ever come with 5/16 pushrods.
i cant find anywhere that says it did.
