Having problems with my 82 Vette. FYI the car is stock. Let me give you a brief history, the car sat for 2 years with a full tank of gas. I forgot to add an additive to the tank. I know it was stupid of me. After burning about ½ tank of gas, the car would not run. I replace the fuel with 93 octane, fuel filter twice. I did blow the fuel pump, and changed fuel pump to a 1985 pump. I checked the timing, its set to 6deg. I added sea foam to the tank. After replacing the fuel pump I was able to get the car to run again. The problem I have is valve tapping not knocking when I punch it. Even on the highway. at idle no knocking. I was told to rebuild the fuel pressure regulator, so I bought a fuel pressure regulator kit and installed it. What could be the problem?

I was told if my battery was disconnected for a long time that the ECM has to go into a learning mode and that this can take as many as 10 to 20 seperate cycles (rides). After that I would play with the timing, the timing mark may have shifted on the balancer. Also if you have a performace chip that may cause some knocking with poor quality fuel.
