Default Numbers help

Can someone help me with my engine numbers? The VIN is 1Z37L7S408642. On the front of the engine is V100CLA and 178408642. On the back of the engine is 3970010. I know the back number tells me the build date, although I dont know how to read it. One of the numbers on the front has the VIN in it...so Im pretty sure its origional. And I know the VIN indicates a L48 Vette. Thats the extent of my reading numbers know how. Hope someone has a book. Thanks.

youve got a 1977 with a CLA engine suffix its an L48 engine 180 HP with an auto tranny (CLA suffix)

3970010 is the right block....

it was built approximately in jun of 77

Thanks driver. I was pretty sure I had a good numbers match...but I just needed some outside confirmation. Thanks for looking it up. I also posted a (list of what it needs in that (what does your vette need post) from a day or two ago. Gonna be a long...but rewarding journey.

The 010 block is correct

The VIN stamp is probably 17S408642

The Suffix stamp is missing a number...

The V is Flint, MI and is correct
The 10 is for October (76) and coincides with the Oct build date of the car
The 0 is the day of the month and there should be another number here (is there another number stamped lightly here?)
The CLA is the L48 Federal Automatic (no smog pump used on this engine)

Looks like the original engine, jsut see if theres another number on the suffix stamp
