Default need a rear carrier/pumpkin!

Oh well... I spoke with the shop today and they told me I busted everything up in the rear... from the posi case, to the gears, the actual carrier/pumpkin, and the side yokes!
I have a few options...

1 - Get a whole rebuilt carrier from Ecklers, etc. for like $900, but I have no good core so add another $500 and im at $1400 for something that prob wont last :-/

2 - Get a rear carrier, then have the shop rebuild all the internals, though they will probably just use stock parts and an Auburn posi that I understand is unrebuildable and wont last my abuse.. they are talking like about the same price GTR would be as well, and wouldnt be as good I am presuming

3 - Get a used carrier, complete ready to roll, have the shop bolt it in and bring it home.. then, save up my cash, and have GTR1999 rebuild it a lil later on...

Opinions!??

I prefer option #3 but need to find a cheap enough pumpkin! Does anyone have anything for sale!?
Thanks again... Chris

Ohh... heres the photos of my old housing and part they still had

You can buy a empty rear housing from Baer's in PA for $100.00.

Here are 2 options. These are mine.
http://dayton.craigslist.org/pts/803413500.html
http://dayton.craigslist.org/pts/839676006.html

edit-Another option is if Gary has one he can build and sell to you. You'll just have to pay him for the core but the shipping wont be so bad going back and forth. The shipping is going to kill you I think.

edit again-just checked end play on the yokes-one side .050 and the other .060.They will work for awhile but plan on getting new ones for the rebuild.

I have a complete unit from a 70 4spd car, I know nothing about though. I bought a rolling chassis and it was part of the deal, $500 shipped. If your intersted email/pm me and I'll pull it to guesstimate the gear ratio.

Go with option 3.

Someone here offered one for sale and I have seen them go from 300 to 500 depending on condition. There have been some for sale here recently, within the last 2 months. Don't know if it sold or not. One was in Delaware if I'm not mistaken. You can always go to Contemporary Corvette over in Bristol Pa and pick one up. Just over the River north of Philadelphia. I have been there many times.

As far as destroying the housing very easy to do. I did it. The case explodes and all the stuff rattles around tearing up the case and could eventually crack it. My case was toast also. I did have a spare 3.70 that I put in and eventually rebuilt it.

Chris, I don't know if they sell them but I was back in the shop at Zips a few weeks ago to pick up my rebuilt Pig (diff carrier) and they had a whole pallet load of diff carriers. They are pretty good guys no matter what some say and may give you a break on one. It may or may not be worth a try all they could say is yes or no. Good luck

Thanks for all the replies... I ended up finding someone locally who had a 3.36 for sale in great shape, so went with that option since it was quickest and a good price... dropped it off at the shop, theyre gonna check all the clearances, bearings, etc., and hopefully itll be put back together in a few days. Down the line Ill probably be having GTR1999 rebuild it for race duty.

Hey Artsvette... yours woulda been a great option being a lil closer, but didnt wanna go any lower than a 3.36...
where in central NJ are you?? im in toms river.

Well, Ive got the car back with that rear in it... the shop said it was in great shape, all the gears, posi, etc looked good, as well as the clearances and bearings after they tore it down and put it back together... probably didnt have many miles on it in the first place They said it should hold up pretty good and stand up to some racing, no different than my previous unit before it started failing.
Finally got out earlier today to really take it for a ride and see how it felt and perfect! Gave it a few hard launches and felt good.
