it can be done, you would be by-passing the safety switch. if you must do it to move the car just be sure the clutch is disengaged before cranking. the question remains-what caused the switch to melt? a short at the new starter?
The switch is plastic, that current goes directly to the starter soilnoid, which can draw quite a bit of current, notice the size of those purple wires.
probable just a worn out switch, after the contacts become poor, they build up resistance = Heat. Replace the switch. 69Vett
Safety switch looks melted. There are two wires going to it. What would happen if I joined those two wires?
Vette is half in and half out of garage. Going to order new one, but won't be here till middle of next week.
Going to order a new one??? vette or garage???
No power to starter. Starter is new as is alternator and battery has a full charge.
Thanks
Randy
J/k I think the switch went bad and needs replacement
I've never seen a 75 4spd with a neutral safety switch, I assume you are talking about the switch that closes when you depress the clutch. If so, you can bypass it, or you can roll the car and let the clutch out to start it if you have enough room and the right incline. When bypassed, the car becomes just like the millions of cars made before the switch was invented. It will start in any gear, clutch in or out. So as long as you push the clutch in to start it, no problem.
