My 1982 vette developed an electrical problem where the fuse starts to melt but does not pop. The other problem is the AC/Heater fan stopped working. The power windows and power locks work fine. What could be causing this problem. Thank you for any help you can offer.
The defrost problem is common amoung alot of the 82's. I have yet to fix this. Just remove the fuse for now. I think the defrost is drawing too much current due to poor contact at the grid or the switch.
as far as the ac/heater check the relay under the hood it controls both the fan and the ac. It is located on the passanger side by the hood catch. It is easy to find as it is located loud and proud on the plastic cover that hides the fuel injection wiring as it passes through the fire wall.
disconnect the relay and check for burnt wires. unplug the purple one and try your blower.
On my car the ac compressor was going bad and the purple was drawing too much current and caused a short at the relay.
Try disconecting the wires that control the AC clutch as well, this may be the simple fix.
