The first cross fire was on the 1982's. The crossfire has a really bad reputation (whether or not it deserved it), and most of the people I know who own 82's have since discarded the crossfire for a TBI or Carburetor (I said most not all). I put a carb on my 82 when I put my 383 stroker in it.
was the TBI the in between of the carb and the fuelies? What was the first year of the cross fire
The Crossfire (twin throttle bodies mounted more or less side by side) was first used in 1982 and used again in 1984 for the last time.
I assume the hand-full of factory only 1983's also had twin TBI's.
My '84 ran good even tho it was originally designed and tuned for emissions control rather than power. They got a bad rap because not many guys knew how to tune them properly. A correctly set up Crossfire is reliable, smooth, and fuel efficient.

My 82 Crossfire has been solid(Thank God!) Fuel economy is amazing for a V8 and the torque pulls you into the seat from 1000rpm up. I will admit that it drops off fast after 4000 RPMs but I adjusted the gov. in the trans for earlier shift points for less than $20 and it moves
My '84 ran fine with the crossfire, but i wouldn't ever put it on a motor it didn't already come on. There are better choices. When I stroked mine to 383 I ended up carbing it.
