Default 1st time vette owner with issues

Hey, I'm new to the forum and new to the vette world. I bought my first vette a 1980 thats a dream..However i have a couple of issues right off the bat. A basic rundown first. A body man I am not so thank god its clean. Mechanically I hold my own so feel free to be technically descrepitve I can handle it. Now my issues!

Steeing will not return to center, where you steer it it stays so you have to steer it back. Pump and lines look new, slave cylinder looks new. gearbox is original?

Climate control only works in high and only blows apparently out of the floor, doesnt blow out of defrost or mid vents.

Dome light will not come on when wirring the timer to jump it it will not shutoff.

that should be enough to get started I'm sure i will find somemore..

I've not noticed my car's steering returning to center without assistance... all of my equipment is new/rebuilt. not sure if it is supposed to re-center itself but sounds unusual (to re-center on its own) to me.

Are you certain the dome light timer is good?

I have an '80 L48... it was my first in '97 and I've had a C5 and a '69 L46 and I've parted with both of them... I figure my '80 will be my first and last vette.

he has jumped the dome light timer by the sounds of it and it leaves the dome lights on. that would lead me to believe a bad pin switch someplace. You did jump the two white wires together correct?

as for the steering, it wont return to center just sitting there im sure you know that but while driving and taking a corner it should come right around. is this what you are decribing?

the climate control sounds like a similar issue being dicussed now with the selector valve being bad or borken.

welcome to the forum!

On the climate control valve it's usually a problem with a vacuum leak. There are two pieces of plastic with a rubber diaphram in between them. The rubber shrinks and it creates a vacuum leak. There is a small plastic clip that holds the sandwich of plastic and rubber together. I break out the clip and replace it with a bolt and elastic stop nut. That allows you to tighen up the sandwich just enough so as to stop the vacuum leak. I've done it on a number of cars and it saves you having to buy a new control valve.

Could it be a lack of front caster?
