a previous owner removed the air pump but left the pipes that feed into the manifold. They seem to be welded, not bolted to it. Anyone get them removed/sealed or do I just need to look at some shorty headers?
you sure they are really welded into the exhaust manifolds? Chances are they are just really tight. The constant heat cycles those threaded connections get can make it very difficult to remove them. Try heating them up with a torch than see if they will loosen up to unscrew out.
Oh - use a line wrench on those nuts are you WILL round them off as you are fighting with them
If Bubba really did weld them you are probably better off with another set of stock manifolds or headers

The later manifolds are 409(?) stainless with welded in air tubes. You can just cut off the tubes at the manifold, then drill out the portion of the tube that sticks inside the pipe, and then weld the hole shut with stainless rod. Done a couple pairs of C3 manifolds this way.
yes these are the tube type. does the air pipe extend into the manifold? If you drill it out would not the extra fall down into the pipe? Or do you have to remove them from the car for this operation?
