Real PIA.

I tackle that projet this summer; sunny day, 11h00 a.m. ....
6h00 p.m. and the damn window wouldn't align perfectly. And what about my sunburn.

Now my two windows are out of the doors for painting!!!!

There must be a procedure to follow. You can ajust the height of the window, the tilt, the position from the front of the door to the rear... and that is just the front rail. There is the rear rail to ajust too. That with the doors ajustements...

If you just want to raise your window, take off the door panel, spot the stopper in each vertical rail of the window. There is a bolt that holds them, just unscrew and ajust up or down.

I will let you know how much trouble I have in a couple of days. I'm half way through changing my weatherstripping out, and then I will adjust my windows...

Tedious, but do-able. The absolute best guide for door glass adjustment will be found in the Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM) for your year. Tells you (and provides illustrations) how they set the glasses at the factory. Also tells you in which order to make your changes.

Yes, it is a PITA. I just did this to both doors this summer after I had the power motor and tracks out for cleanup and repair. I followed the AIM and also used the HELM's service guide which is really helpful. Of course I just had to install new weatherstripping - pillar trim, T-Tops, and rear pillar, main door, and new felts on both sides of the glass. It's tough with new weatherstrip to get the windows up all the way with the door closed, until they "seat in/compress" after a couple of months.

Hi Razz;

Replacing the weatherstripping is a breeze. Spray adhesive remover, pull
and scrape off weatherstripping.

Put on glue and push in, make sure all places are stuck on...

Oh, you don't like the wind noise... Ahhh, now getting rid of that is
truely a PITA! My weatherstripping didn't completely flatten against
the window where the Ttop joined the back strip. I got some of the liquid
gasket stuff (can't remember the name) and used that to seal up the gap.
The window still is a little high - it hits the top of the Ttop weatherstip,
rubbing it slowly away... It also leaks where the ttop sits on the
chrome in the front.

Ahh, slowly but surely.

Ok here's the update...
I suggest that you replace the T-Top weatherstripping first (it's the hardest), then you will have an idea how high to place windshield pillar strip, shove it up against the T-Top...

As for the window adjustment, I tried to do it myself, NOT!
Follow the AIM, it has the steps that they used at the factory to align the windows. One try and a little wiggle here and there, and it was done. You have to sit in the vette and close the door to do the AIM steps, but it works...

I have one small air leak on each door, top rear corner, but the T-Tops sit up so high now that I think as the new stripping compress's a little, the leak will go away.

Let me know if you have any other questions, I will try to answer them if I can...

I paid to have completely new weatherstrip put on my 78. I won't bash any vendor but I had to buy pillar to post from Ecklers. They have GM W/S. It's softer and the windows go up easier. Hope this helps.
