1971 Vette, I just noticed today that the tires I had put on this past summer are rubbing. There is a 1/2 hairline crack above the top front right fender opening. :mad The tires I had installed are Cooper Cobras P225/70R15. The spare tire I have is the original Firestone F70 15. It is a 1/2" narrower and 1" shorter than the Cooper. What size tires are you guys running on your 71's? Have you had this problem?
I think I have 225s on mine with no problems.
The original F70x15 most closly equates to a P215/70R15.
The books show that the 225 has a 1/2" larger OD than the F70 with only a .3" wider tread area. Of course it doesn't show the important dimension of overall width - which could be the problem.
I use to have 255 50 16's now I reinstalled my rally wheels with 245 60 15 up front and 275 60 15's in the rear with no issues. I'm also using a stifferand lower 420lbs new spring up front and poly everything in the suspension. None of my tire combos have given me any issues except for a bit of tire rubbing on the frame of the front wheel wells with the 255 50 16's when making sharp turns.
1971, 350/270, Automatic, Air Conditioning I want to check my front suspension to see if the front springs are any good. In the specifications at the end of the 71 Chassis Service Manual there is a listing for corvette models w/C-60 and wo/C-60. Which one do I have?
Front springs? I got mine from vettebrakes few years ago. I was very satisfied with the ride quality and handling. Now I have'em for sale after onle 500miles due I'm installing mono leaf spring from VB&P. The springs I have are ion very good shape, only bad thing is that I live in the other side of the planet :cry .

I am thinking about installing the mono leaf front spring. Has anybody used it and how do you like it? I have already installed new a-arm bushings and ball joints.
I have 25560R15's with only slight rubbing in the front. You can't tell there is a rub when you drive it but there are rub marks on the front frame. This is a 74 with stock rallys.
I had my distributor all boxed up ready to send to Lars. Now its back in the car. I'm taking it to the garage where I had the tires installed and have them look at it. The mechanix there called Pomps Tire for the cross reference, but he's the one that installed them. Its 50 degrees here in WI, but I don't want to take it joy riding the way it is. I already have a hairline crack in the right front fender, because of these tires (hopefully) and dont want to make it any worse. Oh well, that new paint job this spring will cover that up. Wish me luck fellas.
The mechanic looked at the vette for evidence of tires rubbing and found nothing. That hairline crack on the right fender was just some tar. :bb He said the two grooves on the top inside lip of the fender well must be like that from the factory. Does anybody else with a 71 have these grooves?
