Default 71 Steering Column Wire Diagram

In the process of putting in a new complete wiring harness from EZ Wiring and need a little help from the members. My assembly manual diagrams are not much help in the steering column hook ups. Trying to match up colors will not work so I am looking for someone with a good diagram of the big column connector. There has to be a better breakdown on what mates up to the main connection in a 71 column. Does anyone have something they can make a copy of and email same to n.g.hayes@comcast.net Any help would be greatly appreciated. So far this forum has always come through. Once again, thanks in advance.

1969-82 C3 Corvette Turn Signal Switch Wires
Colors, Order, & Functions

1969-1982 C3 Corvette wiring for the turn signals, hazard warning, brake lights, and horn followed the color coding that is charted below. Cornering lights were also included on 1980, 81, & 82 models. All wiring is routed up into the steering column and functions are actuated through the turn signal switch. The steering column wiring and the vehicle body harness wiring come together in a narrow long connector called the “harmonica connector”.

C3 CORVETTE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH WIRING
YEARS CONNECTOR COLOR WIRE COLUMN COLOR BODY FUNCTION
69-82 P White White 12v when brake pedal is pushed
69-82 N Dk Green Dk Green Right Rear Brake Light
69-82 M Yellow Yellow Left Rear Brake Light
69-82 L Purple Purple +12v source for turn signal power
1969 - 1982 K Brown 18 gage Brown 14 gage This provides the +12v for hazard flasher operation.
1969 - 1982 J Dark Blue 18 gage Dark Blue 20 gage - 2 wires Right Front Turn Signal Light
1969 - 1982 H Light Blue 18 gage Light Blue 20 gage - 2 wires Left Front Turn Signal Light
1969 - 1982 G Black 18 gage Black 20 gage Horn ground when horn button is pressed.
1969 - 1982 F Light Green 20 gage Pink/Black 20 gage These are the key buzzer warning circuit wires. Open with key removed. Shorted together with key in lock cylinder. Also open when key is turned in lock cylinder to Run position.
1969 – 1982 E Tan 20 gage Black 20 gage Same as F
1980, 81, & 82 C Black 18 gage Blk/Wht 18 gage Right Cornering Lamp
1980, 81, & 82 B Orange 18 gage Orange 18 gage Left Cornering Lamp
1980, 81, & 82 A Brown 18 gage Brown 18 gage Feed from headlight switch. This is the +12v source to power the cornering lamps when the headlights are ON.

With the connector disconnected none of these wires should be grounded (tied to chassis). In fact I don't think that they should tie to ground regardless of turn signal position, or activation of the hazard switch.

Referencing an old post here..
My brake lights are not working.. I confirmed operation of the brake switch, but can't find the yellow wire on the harmonica connector . Are these on the output of the connector? I see the white wire on the input.. BTW, my car is a 69.

Your white from the brake switch should be all the way to one end, next to the white should be the dk green, then the yellow.

OK.. thanks.. I just disconnected the harmonica and realized they were on the same side as the white

Is there an easy way to pull the harmonica off the column so i can check the voltage on the yellow and green while the harmonica is still connected?

It should just slide up and unhook and drop down.

I could not get it off.. but I removed the connector and tried jumpering white to yellow or green.. in both cases, neither brake light would come on when the pedal was pushed. I did confirm that white had 12V at the harmonica connector when the peddle was pushed. I'm going to investigate further upstream before swapping the turn signal switch.

I searched for a week as to why my brake lights didn't work. I pulled the brake light switch from under the dash and checked the contacts for continuity. The switch checked good across the two terminals with the plunger out.

Finally someone on the Forum said to just replace the switch. The brake lights worked! Evidently, the current draw from the brake light bulbs was too much for the old switch.
