Default Pulled my hood release handle right off !

Title says it all, I have the hood release handle in my hand. How is it attached ? Is it pressed on or something, I put it back on and now it just pulls right off easy

First time that ever happened!!

No, really, the handle I think is like melted onto the end of the cable. the end of the cable is a bit bigger than the hole in the handle, it's warmed up and stuffed on. Parking brake is the same. Could you maybe tap the hole in the handle and then the end of the cable?? Got to be an easy fix for this one..

Crapola!! The cable came out of the handle? From what I have read on this it is usually the cable coming out of the attachment point under the hood. I think maybe Tim's idea may be worth a shot. Drill a small hole in the handle and put a small set screw into it to hold the cable into the handle. If this doesn't work, you may have to ride around with the hood unlatched for a while till you can get a new handle.

There's good news here...

...You won't have to search for the problem, it's in your hand.

I might try and JB weld it on, the setscrew is probably the best route though

I don't think you can fix it.If you need a replacement ,get a GM one The after market ones don't work well.Don't ask how I know.I have an after market one if interested.

Yes,cable and handel. That after market cable, which is a solid cable, does not return well back to the bracket.GM is more money but works perfect. There are other posts about this .Good luck!

I did the same thing with mine a couple years ago, and did the el cheapo two part epoxy fix. I let it set up a day or so before I tried to use it, and it's been fine ever since.

God knows I open the hood a bunch.

I went with Gorilla Glue. It has been good since but I know one day it'll do it again. I'll get the Gorilla Glue out again and buy myself a couple more years of hood popping happiness and let the cycle continue.

I have broken mine, and I just opened the hood from underneath the car (long skinny arm). Then, I made my own release that I get to from the outside. It folds in under the hood, and you just reach in, grab it, and pull. Made from coathangers (yeah, bubba, I know). Works great, and I am going to take and make a better looking version here soon that does not look so bubba-ish.
