77 was the first Elect trouble shooting manual that I remember.
If you get a wiring diagram from Dr.Rebuild which shows the connector ends and a full color diagram from Don Olson and ask for help with specific circuits here at CF and you will be ahead of the GM trouble shooting manual.
The manuals are not the easiest thing to read and understand.I've been using the 77-82 manuals since they came out and I still find times that I look at them and say "what the heck were they thinking".For instance sometimes they split a relay in 2 and have the 2 halves on opposite sides of the page.

the only other trouble shooting guides Ive seen were NON GM specific in either the older Chilton's manuals, which were limited for the most part to the starting circuits and charging circuits and ignition, or later books again more generic to automotive electrical problems

LOL. That's what we called a detached contact schematic back in my youth at the telco. Once you got the hang of reading them, they really made trouble shooting a circuit a lot easier. I went to a class to learn how to read them, so don't feel bad if you have trouble with figuring it out.
