I need to buy a spacer to run a set of 4.10s in my 3 series carrier. I see that Tom's sells them but I cant find a price for them. who else sells them and how much are they?
I would not use a RG spacer, they have loosened up in the past and then you blow up the diff. You're better off buying a gear set made for a 3 series case. I just built a nice HD 411 diff for my sons 75. Runs smooth and quiet, no spacer.

Talking from experience NEVER use a spacer. I blew my 4.11 rear with a spacer at the drags. Long expensive flat bed ride home. Use the thick ring gear. I now run a 3.70 gear
I agree 100% that a ring gear made thicker is the best way. Years ago the only way was spacers or a new posi.
I can tell you that usually it was the bolts that came loose on the spacer deals. If you managed to keep the bolts tight...they held fairly well. I ran one in a Camaro for many many years running high 10's on motor and 9's on the juice. Sometimes with an automatic and sometimes with a stick.
You're already using used gears and that will be a challenge enough to keep quiet. If you're not going crazy with HP and slicks and stuff....you might get by with a spacer. Just spend the time to make sure there is no runout and as mentioned make sure bolts are correct and use Loctite.
The car isn't crazy but mildly healthy. its a 383 pushing about 400 hp with a T56 6-speed. It will run at the track a few times but not on a regular basis and probably never with slicks. I realize that the thicker gear is a better way to go but its hard to pass up a set of gears for $50. I no a few people running spacers with no complaints so I'm not really worried about it. No one has answered the question yet, how much is a spacer?
