Default Brake Light

My brake light on the tach came on and is staying on? It came on before but always went out when I hit brakes or made a turn. Does this mean low fluid? 77 L48.

That's easy enough to check.

Yeah that usually means low fluid or an imbalance in the proportions between the front system and the rear system.

Check your fluid level, check for indications of a leak, and make sure the lid is on and sealed.

If the fluid level is fine, go out and drive and perform a few hard pedal stomps to stop immediately. Sometimes that will help dislodge anything that might be in the brake switch in the lines.

Could it also be the e-brake. I never use it but my wife pulled it up one day last week I just found out. Its in the down position now and it doesn't seem to be sticking on but light is on (lesson learned "keep wife out of vette"). I will check fluid tomorrow.

There is a switch under the console where the E-brake is. If you want to you can get under that console, and test the switch and make sure it's not sticking.

Fayvette there are 3 switches that can turn on your brake warning light. The brake pressure switch(combination valve under the master cylinder),ignition switch and the parking brake switch.
A quick check is to just temporarily unplug the single tan wire on the brake pressure switch. If the light stays out your problem is in the fluid portion of the system.
