so I finally got the Vette in Belgium,
and on picking her up today, found out it doesn't shift
Reverse is OK, but it seems not to shift out of first gear....
even if I put in 2 or 3....the car doesn't pick up speed, revs don't drop down.
As I'm not at all a car-mechanic, all input / help is welcome !!
Haven't checked the transmission-oil level yet, will do this tomorrow morning,
Thanks in advance,
Sounds like a vacuum issue. I had worked on mine all last winter and when I test drove it last spring it wouldn't shift out of 1st as you describe. I found that the vacuum line down at the transmission has cracked and slipped off of the nipple. I replaced the small section of rubber hose, and it shifted perfectly.
Obviously if you are low on fluid fill that first and see if it makes a difference.

Check both ends of the vacuum line going to trans.
sure sounds like a fluid problem i just went through that. it scared the crap outta me after my filter change i thought i really broke something or got the "its gonna slip if you change the fluid problem" everyone speaks of. It was just a pint low on fluid and evething is fine now. wheeeeeeeeeeewwwwww!!!
This could be something as simple as a vacuum line off the intake. This line supplies vacuum to the modulator valve. When the modulator valve is without vacuum, it will not shift!
If the vacuum line is connected at both the valve and the intake, then go to the valve. If the valve is defective it will cause the exact same problem.
Low fluid is possible, but it sounds to me as if a line may have come loose in transport.
If you post your year, I’ll post a picture of exactly what everyone is talking about and where the line is located.

Thanks - everyone - for the help so far !!
Will keep you updated.
Here is a picture from the Assembly Manual. You can purchase this book at this link and I'm sure everyone here that has one will tell you it's worth it's weight in gold.
Check the hose between number 1 and number 3 on top the engine by the fitting. Then check the hose at the modulator valve number 3 in the left hand upper picture.
is solved !
Combination of not enough transmission oil and some vacuum leaks....
but the Vette now shifts normally again ! Thanks for all your help, guys !
Really appreciate this !!
So far the good news.......
